Shiatsu. Therapy of eastern origin that helps in the treatment and prevention of diseases.

Atualizado: 1 de jan. de 2024

Shiatsu is a therapeutic method created in 1868, originating from oriental medicine, which consists of stimulating points distributed throughout the body, considered channels of vital energy: meridians. The main purpose of therapy is to restore the functioning of organs, increasing the body's natural resistance against diseases and other physical, emotional or psychological health problems.

To do this, during sessions the therapist uses his fingers, hands, elbows and knees to exert pressure on the patient's meridians, seeking to balance the flow of vital energy.

In total there are 12 main meridians (lungs, large intestine, stomach, spleen-pancreas, heart, small intestine, bladder, kidneys, circulation, triple heater, gallbladder and liver) and two extras (governing vessel and conception vessel). Each meridian is related to the organ with which it is associated, in addition to the patient's emotions and psychological patterns.

Before the first session, the therapist carries out a consultation in which he listens to the complaints and investigates aspects such as the patient's medical history, lifestyle, eating habits and physical activities. The diagnosis will help you build a therapeutic plan.

Recommendations

It is recommended that the patient wear loose, comfortable clothing, eat light meals and do not consume alcoholic beverages before the sessions. During the massage, it is recommended that you remain relaxed and silent and inform the therapist immediately if you feel pain or discomfort.

Contraindications

Shiatsu is contraindicated for pregnant women in the first three months of pregnancy and as the main treatment for infections, cancerous or contagious diseases, fractures, open wounds and in the post-surgical period.
